I dunno man.. I personally could care less if someone says the dead suck simply because I know better. If someone articulates exactly what they think is wrong with the dead and has a good logical arguement then it might be taken more seriously and receive intelligent responses. Some people take it personally when people bash something they love and respond harshly. It's nothing new really.

If you really think about it and do the careful listening you will most likely find like lots of us that no other band comes close to what the grateful dead could do on a good nite. There are bands that make less mistakes but take much less risks.. and that's not really what a deadhead is looking for. They want the risk taking, they want a song to soar to the outer limits etc.. I don't get that from any other band bro.

any band i listen to i find something interesting otherwise why listen to them.here is an example of why i think jerry wasnt that good most of the time.ever drive while intoxicated it certainly isnt easy . ever play guitar while fucked up on heroin it cant be that easy .how bout keith moon and pills had to be hard to drum .how bout me goin to work stoned and cuttin my finger off wasnt easy . there are 1 million reasons i can give why the dead werent good.so 40 some odd yrs later right there are 100's of bands who do wat the dead did. thats why they are historic they started it but they wont be the last .i saw someone say bon jovi sucked .in a few yrs bon jovi made 10 times more money and entertained as many ppl the dead did .do they really suck. perhaps but 10-20 million ppl dont think so . how many of you so called deadheads are here 250-300 .most of you saw them 100s of times so there was no room for new listeners cuz you guys bought up all the tix. so when you include record sales the dead has wat a million fans since the same 100000 ppl or so went to the shows. compare that to today the dead are a speck of history at this point.i like the grateful dead alot but i also like slayer alot and elvis presley and a whole bunch more.heck on a good day i even like phish. you guys take the dead way to serious. thats why ppl come in here and fuck with you .it strikes a nerve so we can all lol but you arent lol'n.maybe they need to drop this forum . like i said b4 up in front the mods act quick but here you never hear from them unless its technical .you dont respect us maybe youll respect them. im sick of bickering as much as all of you. maybe the mods can step up and patrol like they do or did up front .if not lets just keep bustin each others balls. its not like we have anything better to do. now just for buttin in on someone elses business i found a killer band. jj grey and mofro give it a listen theres a positive out of much negativity .thank you tyvm i am leaving the building

It's a matter of taste in my opinion. I can't stand slayer personally.. yet you like them a lot. I like tons of different kinds of music and listen to hundreds of different bands for different reasons. But I have never found the same feeling that I get from the Grateful Dead and I'm sure most of the regulars here can agree on that.

Why you would frequent a Grateful Dead forum is a bit beyond me if you honestly feel that way about Jerry..
I've been playing guitar for almost 20 years now and I can tell you for certain that playing the way jerry does is a fuck load more difficult than most other guitarists drugs or not..
Do you even have any idea how fucked up Jimmy Hendrix was 90% of the time.. yet many feel he is the best guitarist ever.

You really underestimate how many people were touched and continue to be touched by the deads music. It will live on for generations to come.

"Apparently McCarthyism has invaded the Forum."

Oh shit; has Ann Coulter invaded our site? There are pictures of her visiting "Tailgunner Joe's" grave on line. And there are pictures of her at Shoreline Ampitheatre in her Grateful Dead T-shirt. She came all the way to California because Uncle Bobo opened a wine bar in Mountain View.

"I would like to invoke my constitutional right not to answer that question as it may incriminate me."

These, or similiar words were spoken by Ronald Reagan on Capitol Hill in 1954. A paranoid tailgunner had somehow fingered the Gipper as a red commie traitor. Coulter loves McCarthy because she's just like him. I really hope that she never comes here...
